Kanye West is an American producer, rapper, and fashion designer who parlayed his production success in the late 1990s and early 2000s into a career as a famous, critically acclaimed solo artist.
West gained recognition as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several artists and developing the “chipmunk soul” sampling style. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he released his debut studio album, The College Dropout (2004), to critical and commercial success and subsequently founded the record label GOOD Music. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop musicians of all time and one of his generation’s most critically acclaimed artists.
Suspension from social media network
West’s outspoken views and life outside of music have received significant media coverage. He has been a frequent source of controversy for his conduct on social media, at award shows, and in public settings, and for his comments on the music and fashion industries, U.S. politics, race, and slavery. His Christian faith, marriage to Kim Kardashian, and his mental health have also been sources of further media attention. Since his recent divorce from Kim, he has been more in the media’s attention than ever before.
Kanye West has been suspended from Instagram for 24 hours after the rapper infringed on the platform’s policy regarding harassment, a spokesperson for its parent firm, Meta Platforms Inc, said.
The platform deleted content sent from the 44-year-old rapper’s account that violated its policies on hate speech and bullying and harassment after targetting his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend, Pete Davidson, and a slew of other prominent Black comedians, including The Daily Show host Trevor Noah. The company also removed the back-to-back Instagram posts that included racial slurs aimed at Noah and restricted the singer from being able to post, comment, or send DMs on Instagram for 24 hours.
In subsequent posts, he claimed that Davidson would get Kardashian “hooked on drugs” because he’s “in rehab every two months.” West also made fun of Davidson’s Hillary Clinton tattoo, writing “Tramp Stamp Pete the Tramp… here’s the stamp.”The post has since been deleted.
Meta declined to provide details of the posts that violated its policy. However, posts of West criticizing actor D.L. Hughley and SNL writer Dave Sirius can still be seen on his profile. Kardashian, a businesswoman and star of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” filed for divorce a year ago, citing irreconcilable differences with West. The couple has four children ranging in age from 2 to 8.
After the divorce, West criticized the reality star’s new relationship with Davidson on social media and publicly appealed to her to return to him. A Los Angeles judge granted this month Kardashian’s request to be declared legally single following nearly eight years of marriage to the rapper.
