Health is said to be the state of one’s physical and mental condition being free from illness or injury while well-being is the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy. What is important to note is that both seem complement each other as when you’re free of illness, you are deemed fit but does being injury or illness free guarantee happiness or comfort? Further studies define well-being as the state of being in alignment with body, mind, and soul. This definition explains further that the state of well-being goes beyond the physical aspect of the body and encompasses also the spiritual and feelings of individuals. It is the state of being satisfied with every aspect of one’s life.
Various things apart from illness or injuries can impair the state of well-being. For instance, when you are insecure about your weight, you are uncomfortable in your skin and as such can’t be said to be experiencing well-being. Other factors impairing the state of well-being include stress, fatigue, and lifestyle. The million-dollar question on everyone’s minds now is “how can good health and wellbeing be achieved?” and this article provides just the answer to that question and other similar ones.
While good health can be achieved by performing basics such as the regular eating of a balanced diet, abstinence from playing rough, keeping one’s surroundings clean and germ-free, etc. to experience wellbeing, one should be prepared to do more than that to achieve peace with all aspects of one’s life. To achieve wellbeing, the following are germane:
It should be noted that the impairments of wellbeing differ from one individual to another. For David, it could be him having problems with his relationship while for John, it could be work-related. Hence, the first step to achieving well-being is to determine what is stopping you from achieving this state, what are the things in your life you are unhappy about and want to change? What is that extra weight full of grudges you are dragging with you? Where are you now? What do you wish to achieve? Only when you determine these things (write them down on a piece of paper if it aids you to remember) will you be able to work towards achieving wellbeing. Only when you find the roots of your problems tree will you be able to demolish the said tree.
After determining the above, the next step is to take baby steps. This follows the saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day” as all the solutions to your problems cannot be found once, it takes time. It is advisable not to rush into things but rather try accomplishing all your set objectives one step at a time.
Next up is to create a positive environment. Positives are essential in life, and it is, therefore, important to surround yourself with only positive vibes and toss the negatives far away from you. Of course, things can’t be all rosy but who said you should dwell and waste your precious time and effort on the negatives? This step is the point where you free yourself from the “captivity of negativity,” (Theodore Bagwell, 2009).
Moving forward, you should also garner support from family and friends alike as no man is an island and we all need somebody or people in the long run. Ask for real opinions on yourself and seek to be at a happy place with all of them. Also, ask for help on how to achieve well-being, this could be from experts or reading online articles or any other reputable source you deem fit.
Lastly, it is important to note that all humans are predisposed to experience wellbeing, and as such, you shouldn’t be hard on yourself. It is important to recognize the success, no matter how minute, you’ve achieved as a silver lining rather than dwelling on the failures.
Engaging in activities that you enjoy, be it sports, music, etc. is also a good way to ensuring well-being as it contributes to the aspect of well-being which entails being happy.
Conclusively, being healthy does not automatically guarantee you to be in a state of wellbeing as it (state of wellbeing) encompasses more than just being injury or illness free (definition of being healthy)
